Yarveya releases Silver Century — six songs based on early twentieth-century poetry

Silver Century asks how closely words written roughly a hundred years ago can speak to the present. The album does not reproduce a historical musical form. The poetry is placed within contemporary electronic production and pop dramaturgy, with Yar’s baritone, Veya’s mature female voice and restrained live accents.

The tracklist includes Love Demands So Much from You after Maximilian Voloshin, Among the Worlds after Innokenty Annensky, Love, Like Hostility after Dmitry Merezhkovsky, How Bitter to Understand after Elisaveta Dmitrieva, One Can Live with Eyes Closed after Konstantin Balmont and Words of Love after Zinaida Gippius.

Yarveya is a two-performer project led by Yar and Veya. Its songs are structured around male and female voices and themes of time, memory, relationships and choice. Silver Century brings that method to Silver Age poetry through contemporary electronic and pop production.

The release’s key line is “a century has passed, but the conversation remains.” It concerns recurring human situations: the desire to be heard, attraction, distance and the inability to say enough.
