The tracklist draws on texts by Maximilian Voloshin, Innokenty Annensky, Dmitry Merezhkovsky, Elisaveta Dmitrieva, Konstantin Balmont and Zinaida Gippius. Yar’s male voice, Veya’s female voice and their duets give each text a separate dramatic perspective.
Veya opens the album with Love Demands So Much from You, followed by Yar’s solo Among the Worlds. The duet Love, Like Hostility sits at its centre, while Words of Love closes the record by moving from restraint towards an emotionally charged ending.
Contemporary electronic production, restrained live accents and close vocal performances keep attention on the words and the relationships inside them. Early twentieth-century poetry enters a present-day musical language and reads as personal speech.
The album’s working idea is simple: a century has passed, but the conversation remains. Time and recording methods have changed; attraction, distance and the difficulty of speaking about love remain recognisable.
